fix me

Over the past few days I have been painfully aware of my brokenness, my self-centeredness and my sin. Being selfish is hard to face up to. I found some comfort listening to Coldplay's new CD X&Y. They have a stark and honest realism about the brokenness of life and within themsleves and yet they always posess something more that seems to pull them through the difficulty, hurt and despair - HOPE. I was driving in my car and the song Fix You came on WYEP and it ministered to me. I see this song as a confession of sorts. It helped me acknowledge the stickiness and the deceptiveness of sin, the promises sin makes that it cannot fullfill. And I provided me a moment to cry out to God and ask him to guide me home, reignit my bones and fix me. Check it out...
When you try your best but you dont succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you cant sleep - Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you cant replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste - Could it be worse
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When youre too in love to let it go
But if you never try youll never know
Just what youre worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

powerful post bj - thanks for your openness about your own struggles. this song has really been working on me as well. i heard it for the first time on VH1 Storyteller's in June and it immediately grabbed me. i have heard some people describe the CD as "depressing," yet i think you hit on it: there is a thread of hope.

where are the voices of hope in this world today? i heard bill hybels talk about hope at the leadership summit: he raised the question that so many of us are asking, "does it have to end like this?" as we move into our brokeness we then can became the voice of hope the world needs.

may God's light lead us home and ignite our bones.

Wow. I have to get my hands on this CD--I was just moved to tears by reading the lyrics you posted. We all are longing. And we will always be...I gotta get off the computer so I'm not going to have a chance to read your thing about friendship, but I'd like to say I value yours. Suzi Aka SL

It's my favorite song on the album. I remember driving in the hills of Maryland last June blasting it on my crappy car stereo. Tears in my eyes, it was a truely spiritual experience.
